Dave sat in the darkness, still pretty much confused.
He feared more for his mum than for himself although he was not sure she was in this building, he had wanted to ask one of the hefty looking men that brought him here, but he suspected it would sound more like a demand than an appeal which they might not take lightly.
His captors wore face masks which made him optimistic, because they would not bother concealing their faces if they intended to kill him.
Right? .
Plus face masks weren’t a fashion statement cause they didn’t look good on anyone.
Except you were hideously disfigured like Quasimodo or the phantom of the Opera, Maybe then you would want to wear a mask. But it defied all normal reason that six of these men would be hideously disfigured.
But then again, even if they had planned not to harm him, a piece of the puzzle might fall out of place, in a moment of madness, he might be shot accidentally or unexpected events might turn the kidnappers intent towards him.
But as a visionary, having believed since childhood that every life has meaning and neither his nor his mum’s will pass before they find their purpose, Dave does not dwell on what might go wrong, but sees himself released, unharmed.
He believes envisioning the future helps shape it. Not that he had achieved what he had so far by merely envisioning it. Hard work, not wishes, builds careers.
Maybe, once he is free again, he might consider settling down, maybe get a holiday home in the Bahamas, or visit Antarctica, probably travel to the United States so he could indulge in their “strange ” dishes like pizzas, hamburgers, chips and all of that and possibly throw up on his way back.
Then maybe, just maybe he could patch things up with Diego, the successful brother who effortlessly succeds at whatever he lays his hands on, they could iron out their issues so his future kids won’t have a “distant” uncle .
Or better still he could finally get married, he was twenty two now and he should consider starting up a family, get a permanent home, maybe a pet also, plan a future for his kids, stay with one woman, or maybe it could wait a little more.
During his ruminations about holiday homes and foreign countries and hunger for exotic delicacies, he caught sight of a glittering object just beneath the bed, he had seen it before but he had thought it was a ring, but his eyes had adjusted to the poorly lighted room, he saw it was a dagger, probably left by one of the men, and although he was sturdily bound to a chair with ropes, he knew he had to make a decision that could set him free.
Or force them to kill him.
