Chapter 12

Carlo Moraes

His first visit to Sao Paulo was at sixteen, Now not so much had changed in the vibrant city of Brazil after eight years, It still consisted of its Sandy beaches where the sun met the sea, The love for football that displayed itself on the streets, the beautiful women that roamed about and the samba that made everyday seem like a carnival, But Diego wasn’t here for any of that.

He checked his watch.

11:42am

He had arrived Sao Paulo at 8:00am and he still hadn’t seen the man he was meant to see…..

“You don’t look for Carlo Moraes, Carlo Moraes finds you” The “Boss” had said.

For a moment, he considered exploring the Terra da Garoa, maybe he could visit the Museu de Arte Contemporaneo to behold the ancient works or the Mosteiro de Sao Bento to get inspiration to start a new life, But he could not do any of that since he was here strictly on business matters.

“Holla amigo ”

“Hello” Diego turned to answer the lean man looking at him.

“Are you Senor Diego Book”

“Yes” Diego answered. He noticed the man’s English was a bit tilted, In fact you could literally hear Brazil in his voice, He was definitely one of the locals and maybe he couldn’t speak good English.

“Welcome to Sao Paulo ” The man said. And in that instant Diego’s face was covered with a sack cloth by the men he hadn’t noticed were behind him.

It seemed to him like the darkness was forever but in thirty minutes he was seated in front of Carlo Moraes.

“Diego Book” The overfed looking man said to him.

“I was a friend of your Father’s….” The man continued.

Diego looked around, he wasn’t bound to the chair and the man had no security nearby. In fact only he and the oversized man were in the room, The perfect trap, Diego thought, They were probably outside the door, listening, hoping that he would attack the man so they could have a reason to pounce on him, But he was smarter than that…..

“…How would you like to watch a football match this evening? ” Carlo Moraes said

“Football, I love football” Diego answered

“Good, It seems we will become really good friends Diego” Carlo moraes said.

“Yes, We will” Diego answered

But Diego knew it was only a matter of time before the first throat was slit…..
